The Ice Fracture transformed the winter phenomena of ice cracking into an urban experience that explored the physical relation between movement, light and space. 400 casts of traffic pylons covered a 100x200 ft. area of the Delaney Park site in Anchorage, Alaska. Embedded in the ice, LED lights were controlled by strategically placed motion detectors, which visitors triggered by their movement. The lines of lights and their arrangement referenced the idea of ice cracks that happen when one walks on a frozen lake. Ice Fracture was created for the FREEZE event curated by Julie Decker and organized by Alaska Art Forum and Anchorage Museum.
